Tamu Samaj Victoria Dashain Tihar BBQ 2015

Tamu Samaj Victoria has organized its first ever Dashain Tihar BBQ on 21st Nov Saturday at Coburg Lake Park. Tamu Samaj Victoria formally organizes Lhhochhar, Buddha Jayanti and AGM every year. The Dashain Tihar BBQ program was another very successful program to facilitate get-together and share the festive wishes among Tamu and others residing in Victoria. Around 150+ people attended the event.

The BBQ program featured free food (Selroti, Achaar, Lamb/Chicken cutlets, Chutney, traditional Nepalese and others dishes) provided by Tamu Samaj Victoria volunteers, Face painting for kids, Soccer, Musical chair, Ghaito phutaune, etc. The weather was almost perfect with clearing shower in the morning and sunny in the afternoon. Everyone adults and kids enjoyed the every bit of the event.

There was also Tamu Samaj Victoria’s annual membership renewal, which is $30 per family, $20 per single and $10 per student for 2015/16. The annual membership fee supports the operation of Tamu Samaj Victoria such as public liability insurance, legal, website, etc; Emergency fund for members who are in need; Supporting annual activities such as Lhhochhar, Buddha Jayanti, etc; and others such as contributing to the recent Nepal Earthquake relief fund.

Later in the afternoon, an information session was held on the preparation of upcoming Lhhochhar program which is scheduled on 3rd Jan, Sunday, 2016 at Estonian Hall, West Brunswick.  Secretary Amrita Gurung gave an overview of the plan and set the responsibilities for Lhhochhar. Afterwards President Pahalman Gurung talked about a new initiative to build a Tamu Samaj Victoria Cultural Center. Tamu Samaj Victoria Cultural Center coordinator Arun Gurung presented the progress so far, tentative budget and plan, how others can contribute to the project. A good number people pledged voluntary donations to the project on the day, which was an excellent outcome of the day. For information about the project, please direct enquiries to Arun Gurung.

The event was full of activities throughout the day. Kids playing different games, adults helping to sell the drinks including special Nepalese Chiya. The fund collected from drinks sale will go to the Tamu Samaj Victoria fund. Everyone was delighted to meet each other, many new faces.

With such a massive participation and success, Tamu Samaj Victoria will continue the event next year.
