Tamu Samaj Victoria organized Lhochhar 2015 on Sunday, 4th Jan 2015 at Estonia House, 43 Melville Road, West Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. Around 200+ Gurung (Tamu) people from all over Victoria gathered to celebrate “Year of Sheep”.

At the start of the program, Pooja was performed by Lama Indra Bahadur Gurung. The Lama also extended blessing and best wishes to all the people for the new year especially to people who were born in the year of Sheep.

Thereafter the kids and crowd sang the national anthems of Australia and Nepal. There were guests and well-wishers from Nepalese Consulate General, Mr Chandra Yonjan, Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) Mr Chin Tan and Mr Parshuram Luital, Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) Mr Keshav Kandel, Tamang Society Mr Bom Yonjan, Kirat Society Mr Sanjay Rai, Gurkhas Nepalese Community Mr Jum Gurung and others.

The president of Tamu Samaj Victoria, Mr Pahalaman Gurung, officially welcomed all the guests and audience, and wished them well in the “Year of Sheep”.

Chief guest Mr Chin Tan from VMC explained wonderfully about the role of multi-culturism and the opportunity for everyone from any background to become the Prime Minster of Australia. He also thanked the organizers and wished happy New Year.

The cultural shows followed afterwards, from traditional Gurung dances such as Kauda, Saroti, to modern remix Nepali dances entertaining the crowd whole afternoon. Everyone enjoyed all the performances especially from young kids.

Certifications of Appreciation were given to the volunteers who helped to make the Lhochhar program such a huge success. The president Mr Pahalman Gurung distributed the certificates.

The vice-president Mr Mabi Gurung along with Dhan Bahadur Gurung and Pooja Gurung conducted the program. At the end of the program, Mr Mabi Gurung thanked all the community members who came to celebrate together and show support to Tamu Samaj Victoria’s efforts on organizing Lhochhar.
