As in the first cultural meet, this year also we had a wonderful showcase of various cultural aspects of our Gurung community. It was indeed a memorable and wonderful gathering of all generations . Despite everyone’s busy schedule, the function was attended by quiet a large number.
The events of the day long programme included Traditional Gurung dance, Cultural Fashion show, Documentary show, Speech competition, Quiz, Raffle draw , Face painting and various sports activities like “Thelo hanne”, “Ghaito Futaune” and “Musical chair “.
The programme began with traditional Puja conducted by our very own Mr Rajan gurung followed by Welcome speech by president of Tamu samaj Victoria, Mr Pahalman gurung. Mr Arun Gurung and Mr Mabi Gurung gave brief updates about the cultural activities and artists.
The day was made more colourful by active and enthusiastic participation in various activities by the attendees. It was indeed heart warming to see everyone in our traditional Gurung attire especially the younger generation, while the Gurung dance performed by our own local members and artists brought out the true spirit of our cultural value.
This year, we tried to include newer events like quiz and speech competition so that people of all age group could participate, enjoy, as well as learn about our Gurung culture. Everyone gave their performances with grace and got a big round of applause. The winners of various activities were given prizes as token of appreciation.
A very special mention to the “Delicious Catering Committee” led by Mrs Amrita Gurung and volunteers. Thanks to their superb culinary skills, this year also our attendees had the privilege to taste a variety of mouthwatering home made traditional Nepali dishes. The programme ended at 3:30 pm with a vote of thanks from Mr President Pahalman Gurung.
Many thanks to the planning committee who spent several days of hard work, planning and preparing the event ! Without everyone’s great efforts, the cultural day would not have been this successful.
The programme was fun, entertaining and educational. It was a wonderful way to learn and celebrate our Gurung culture.
