VIRTUAL BUDDHA JAYANTI 2021 – ZOOM AND FACEBOOK LIVE

Buddha Jayanti 2021 AD (2565th Siddharth Gautam Buddha’s Birthday) was celebrated virtually by Tamu Samaj Victoria community from 10 to 11am on Saturday 7 August 2021. Around 150+ participants and their families tuned in to mark the occasion.

 

Due to the recent state-wide lockdowns in response to the COVID-19 outbreaks, TSV had to postpone the program 2 times in the past. This time, we had planned to take a hybrid approach – limited onsite gathering as well as ZOOM/Facebook Live. Unfortunately, there was stage4 lockdown just before a couple of days ago. Therefore, the program had to be virtual only.

 

Many of planned activities had to be cancelled. Only Buddha Pooja (‘Prayers and Chantings’) and Prabachan (‘Discourse on Buddha Teachings’) by Lama Guru Rachhe Gurung were accommodated. Guru Rachhe joined us by ZOOM from his hometown in Chitwan district, Nepal.

 

The program was short. TSV President Mr Pahalman Gurung welcomed the attendees with a short speech. TSV Vice-President Mr Tej Gurung welcomed Guru Rachhe with Kata and flowers/fruits. After main program of Pooja and Prabachan, he also thanked Guru Rachhe for his time and Buddha insights and teachings. The program MC was TSV Secretary Ms Mohini Gurung, technical side of ZOOM and Facebook Live was handled by Mr Saugat Gurung.

 

We would like to acknowledge the Victoria MultiCultural Commission (VMC) grant for the program.  It was a great time together as a big family to mark the TSV Buddha Jayanti 2021, very first virtual program organized by TSV. We thank everyone and look forward to see you all at our next program, hopefully face-to-face.
