Event Description :

Buddha Jayanti 2025 AD (Siddharth Gautam Buddha’s 2569th Birthday, he was born in Lumbini, a mid-sourthern part of Nepal) was celebrated by Tamu Samaj Victoria (Australia) community from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday 10 May 2024 at Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery (Vietnamese Community led), Fawkner. More than 200+ attendees young and old from Melbourne Metropolitan and overseas visitors came together to mark the occasion. The program was designed to cater various community needs – spirituality with chanting and prayers, Buddha discourse and blessing, community gathering and cohesion, free vegetarian meals and drinks, children activities, etc.

Program Schedule

Once again, we were fortunate this year to have the presence and blessing of the venerable Lingrik Nyima Lama Rinpoche from Nepal (We would like to acknowledge the sponsor Bikram-Ratna Gurung family for Rinpoche’s visit).  Together with TSV community resident Sanga Lama Indra Bahadur Gurung, he delivered the mantra chanting and a discourse on the Buddhist wisdom and teachings.

There was a short update about TSV Cultural Centre project by Dr Mohan B Gurung. Also, Mr Nar Bahadur Gurung, an overseas visitor, shared his experience about a similar project led by Gurung community in Reading, UK.

After the free vegetarian meals prepared by TSV Mothers Team, the children activities included two creative sessions – gratitude and story-telling – by Ms Kritika Pradhananga from Ekadeshma (https://www.ekadeshma.au/).

Finally, the prize/souvenir/Dakshina distribution and a thank you note from TSV President Tej Bahadur Gurung ended the official program. A very special thanks goes to the venue provider – Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery, venerable Master Tang and Master Dang Tu, for their kindness and generosity.

The event coordinator duo TSV Mothers Team Leads Anita Gurung and Dr Parbati Gurung have done job well, supported by many dedicated TSV volunteers. Lastly we would like to thank everyone for coming together to reflect and contribute to a more resilient community. As always, please feel free to reach out to any executive member.

Thank you
Tamu Samaj Victoria (Australia)
