Event Description :

Tamu Culture Day and Deusi-Bhailo 2025 was organized by Tamu Samaj Victoria (Australia) community differently this year reflecting on previous editions.  Two house Deusi-Bhailo programs in Point Cook (Western suburb) and Cragieburn (Northern suburb) were organized on Saturday 18 October 2025. About 150+ community members gathered to dance, sing, exchange Tihar wishes, eat, drink and mingle with others. Many on traditional Tamu (Gurung) attire helped to showcase the Tamu identity in Victoria. The cultural performances by young and old talents lifted the spirit of the festival mood even higher.

Around lunch time, TSV Deusi-Bhailo team was cordially hosted by Amrit and Anita family in Pointcook , and supported by other families in the western suburbs. We all had a great time with the traditional Deusi-Bhailo singing and dancing, a few new hidden talents were discovered. We also got opportunity to listen to Dr Mohan B Gurung on the TSV Cultural Centre Project update, Mr Pahalman Gurung (Past TSV President) and Mr Tej B Gurung (Current TSV President) on importance of continuing these activities to preserve and pass on  the Tamu identity and culture in Victoria.

In the late afternoon, the Deusi-Bhailo team headed to Inder Singh and Mina family house in Craigieburn for the 2nd program. The crowd (more Tamu families in Northern suburbs) was bigger and atmosphere even merrier. The performances were awesome with some talents showcasing their great dance skills wowing the crowd. The crowd also got together to sing and dance for some time enjoying the company. The food/drinks were delicious. Mr Tej B Gurung thanked the host and families for coming together to celebrate the Tamu Culture Day and Deusi-Bhailo, at the same time raising about $6500 total for the Cultural Centre project.

The successful program delivery was possible only because of a number of talented and committed volunteers such as Mabi Gurung, Rajan Gurung, Mohini Gurung, Subash Gurung, Rajan Gurung (junior), Gopal Gurung, Som Prasad Gurung, Bijay Gurung, Ashima Gurung (young talent), Kiran Shrestha, etc.  Membership/donations supported by Gam Gurung and Ashok Gurung.  Thank you to all committee members, volunteers, host and supporting families, attendees, and well-wishers for good memories.

As always, please feel free to reach out to anyone in the TSV leadership group (Executive, Board, Advisors, Mothers’ Group) for any comments/advice.
