ABOUT US

Tamu (Gurung) people residing in Melbourne have been celebrating Lho-Chhar since 1997 initially at Kathmandu Cottage Restaurant, North Melbourne. Since 2001, Lho-Chhar has been celebrated in a larger scale with attendance of both Tamu and Non-Tamu people in Victoria. As the number of Tamu people grew in Victoria, there was a meeting held in 2009 to establish TAMU SAMAJ VICTORIA (TSV) which was formally registered (registration number A0054195L) with Consumer Affairs Victoria in 2010 and obtained its own ABN number (81052 746 983).

Tamu Samaj Victoria organizes Lho-Chhar, Buddha Jayanti and Culture Day every year.

Tamu Samaj Victoria aims to continue preserve the unique Tamu (Gurung) tradition, culture, language and identity in Victoria, Australia. Tamu Samaj Victoria also plays an active role to promote Nepalese identity and multicultural society in Victoria as well as Australia.

Besides, Tamu Samaj Victoria works on welfare of Tamu people in Victoria. It acts as an official source of information regarding Tamu people in Victoria.
