AGM HELD ON 9TH AUG 2015 AT COBURG PARK

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Tamu Samaj Victoria was held at Coburg Park on 9th Aug 2015. A very good gathering of over 30 Gurung people participated in and contributed to the lively meeting. A delicious BBQ was organized by the committee to prepare the attendees for the over 4 hours long meeting. The kids also enjoyed a plenty of activities at the nearby playground.
The current president Pahalman Gurung started the meeting giving an overview of the committee’s activities in 2015 and highlighting the importance of role played by “Tamu Samaj Victoria” preserving “Tamu Identity”.
Assistant Treasurer Dipu Gurung distributed several hard copies of the financial report 2015 to the attendees, and briefly gave a brief snapshot of the major financial items.
Next up was the election of the new executive committee. Incumbent president Pahalman Gurung was overwhelmingly elected for next term. Vice President Mabi Gurung indicated his contribution for the past 15 years to the Samaj, and now with young kids to look after not having much time to contribute productively as he would like to. He asked other members to step in to take over the role. Mr Tej Gurung was proposed and elected to take Vice President role for the new committee. Likewise current Secretary Bikram Gurung stated to step down because of family commitments. Then current Assistant Secretary Amrita Gurung was well supported to take the Secretary position. Ms Pampha Gurung will fill up the Assistant secretary role. Dipu Gurung will take the Treasurer role and Mr Milan Gurung will be the Assistant Treasurer. The outgoing executives will support the incoming executives during the transition. Also new members were elected to the board committee. Full list of the committee will be available soon.
At the end, Mr Pahalman Gurung started discussion on “Gumba” project. Mr Arun Gurung, coordinator of Gumba committee formed on Buddha Jayanti celebration day, updated the progress so far on the topic. A project document capturing most of the aspects of the progress was also circulated by email to the members before the meeting. Most of the attendees agreed with the idea of Gumba building, a physical place for Gurung people in Victoria. Also a monthly donation to kick-start the fund-raising was accepted, $20/month for family and $10/month for single. After further discussion on the concept of Gumba, some people put forth to rename it instead to “Tamu Dhi” which means “House of Gurungs”. It was also agreed by the majority. New details will be posted to the community as the project moves forward.
