BUDDHA JAYANTI 2019 (2563RD) CELEBRATED BY TSV

Buddha Jayanti 2019 AD (2563rd Gautam Buddha’s Birthday) was observed by 120+ adults and children gathered from right across Victoria and some visitors from Nepal. Tamu Samaj Victoria organized the event to mark this auspicious day on 26th May (Sunday) at Harolds Steven Athletic Track, 20 Outlook Road, Coburg North, Victoria. The official program was from 10 am to 4 pm.
The first part of the Buddha Jayanti program was Pooja, normally worshiping Buddha with Khada, flowers, lighting “Batti” and incense. Next a series of speech about the occasion, started by Tamu Samaj Victoria’s President Mr Pahalman Gurung. He extended the warm wishes to all the attendees, and highlighted TSV activities including TSV Cultural Centre project. Afterwards Dr Mohan Gurung, TSV magazine coordinator, presented a slide show about the Gaumta Buddha and Buddhism. Then Dr Arun Gurung, TSV Cultural Centre Coordinator, gave an update about the project progress so far, introduced new team members, and plans for next financial year. The final talk was by Mr Tej Bahadur Gurung, who is a sports administrator, social-worker, education business owner in Nepal. He has started “Tamu Cultural Academy” which provides scholarships to Tamu students across Nepal.
After enjoying the delicious vegetarian foods and drinks home-prepared by all the volunteers, second part started which focused on kids activities. Essay competition on “Importance of Buddha Jayanti”, and was participated by Bipin Gurung. Drawing competition attracted a much bigger number of children. Then we had “Thelo Falne”, a traditional sports for gentlemen in high mountains of Nepal. Finally a great fun for all participants as well as onlookers – musical chair competition for ladies and children was held.
TSV secretary Mr Milan Gurung thanked all the volunteers and participants for making the event a great success. The prize distribution shortly afterwards concluded the program.

And a big thank you to all active volunteers who worked behind the scene.
