TAMU LHOCHHAR 2026 “YEAR OF THE HORSE” तमु ल्होछार/ल्होसार त-ल्हो/घोडा-वर्ग

The biggest festival of Tamu/Gurung community पुष १५ तमु ल्होछार/ल्होसार Tamu Lho-Chhar 2026 “Year of The Horse” was celebrated by Tamu Samaj Victoria (Australia) community from 4 pm to 9 pm on Saturday 3 January 2026 at Estonian House, 43 Melville Rd, Brunswick West, Victoria 3055. Around 500+ attendees including overseas/inter-state visitors, community leaders, sponsors, well-wishers, partners and supporters got together to mark a change of Zodiac sign from the Snake to the Horse. The event door entry fees were set to $10 for TSV member and $15 for non-members, which helped to deliver the event in a sustainable manner.
Some highlights of the day were –
- Prayers and new year blessing from Sange Lama Indra Bahadur Gurung to bid farewell to “Year of The Snake” and welcome new “Year of The Horse”.
- Session 1 of the program started with MC Chhoyang Gurung and Adi Gurung. After acknowledging the traditional landowners of Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, national anthems (Nepal and Australia) were played. The resident Sange Lama Indra Bahadur Gurung recited some mantras to ward off evil spirits and wish good year to everyone. The TSV secretary Dr Arun Gurung gave an overview of TSV community especially about the TSV Cultural Centre project calling upon every Gurung family to contribute more and quickly to realize the dream in next couple of years. The TSV President Tej Gurung delivered a welcome speech and officially opened the program, and welcomed the invited guests (community leaders, Merri-bek Mayor, business sponsors, media partners, former presidents) by offering Khada. The NRNA Australia Victoria Coordinator Mahadev Dhanuk extended best wishes to the TSV community and highlighted the contribution towards the Nepal Festival 2025 cultural program. The chief guest Merri-bek Mayor Cr Nat Abboud, Tej Gurung and TSV Magazine editor Dr Mohan Gurung joined on stage to launch the TSV magazine 2026 [Vol. 7]. Mayor Cr Abboud offered Tamu LhoChhar best wishes and council’s support program for multicultural communities like TSV. Then, Mayor Cr Abboud, former TSV Presidents Min Prasad Gurung and Pahalman Gurung, and current President Tej Gurung congratulated the academic achievers in calendar year 2025 (VCE graduates also got $50 gift vouchers).
- Session 2 of the program included more than two dozens of traditional Tamu/Nepali cultural dance/singing performances. Many TSV community youths have been practicing over last two months to put up a great show, thank you to them and their parents/guardians. The session was managed by a brilliant MC duo – Subash Gurung and Dipa Gurung. All the performances were received with a great enthusiasm and applause.

- Felicitation of 7 newest TSV life family members who have contributed in excess of $5000. There are now 18 TSV life family members (part of TSV Board committee). We also had raffle draw prizes $50, $30 and $20 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners (3x tickets for $5).
- Session 3 had a certificate distribution to the cultural artists/volunteers and a closing remark by the TSV President. Afterwards, we all danced together in various remix songs, and had a great time celebrating Tamu LhoChhar.
