TSV THANK YOU BBQ AND CULTURAL CENTRE INFORMATION SESSION

TSV has organised Thank you BBQ for all the volunteers and community members who helped to make “Tamu Hi-Lho – Year of Cat” celebration a grand success. It is the volunteers whose contribution keeps community organisations like TSV operate and achieve successful positive outcomes throughout the year, and year after year.
It was held at Coburg Lake Reserve from 10am to 5pm Sunday 5/Feb/2023. A crowd of 150 young and old around the Melbourne gathered and enjoyed the free BBQ feast including homemade special ‘Selroti’ and ‘Achaar’, etc. BBQ volunteers from Executives, Board Members, Advisers, Mothers and youths collectively made the event run smoothly – before, during, and afterwards. A big thank you to all!
There was also an information session on new proposals for TSV Membership and Cultural Centre project. TSV Secretary Ms Mohini Gurung coordinated the session. TSV President Mr Tej Gurung gave a brief overview about TSV and what it stands for, called for more participation. Next, TSV Adviser and Cultural Centre Coordinator Dr Arun Gurung talked about Cultural Centre project including history, importance, current status and challenges. Finally, TSV Adviser and Newsletter Editor Dr Mohan B Gurung explained in more details about some proposals for way forward to improve TSV governance and operation, and Cultural centre financial viability. Note that the proposals will undergo further discussion and be officially amended/approved in upcoming TSV AGM in July/Aug.
One immediate milestone for Cultural centre project is to purchase a suitable land by end of 2024 (2 years time), budget around $500K. In order to achieve it, a new team comprising of following people with specific tasks has been formed:
Dr Mohan Gurung – Project detailed plan, publicity, overall coordination and drive
Som Prasad Gurung – fundraising including new ideas/initiatives including outside Victoria
Bikram Gurung – Business and Institutional sponsorships
Anita Gurung – TSV General memberships (target 250 adult individuals, fee $25 per year), TSV Life memberships
Dr Arun Gurung – Records, Grants, Land Purchase, Legal, Support
The team will regularly meet and drive the tasks along with Executives, Board Members, Advisers, Mothers and wider community members to achieve the stated milestone.
As always, please feel free to reach out to anyone in the TSV leadership group (Executive, Board, Advisers, Mothers’ Group) for any comments/advice. Many more volunteers are needed to run TSV events and activities throughout the year in a long-term sustainable manner.
