Event Description :
On the 28th of December (Saturday) 2019, Tamu Samaj Victoria (TSV) celebrated its mega event “Tamu Lho-Chhar 2019” at Estonia House, 43 Melville Road, West Brunswick, Victoria. More than 350 Tamus and other community members from all over Victoria gathered together to farewell “The year of Deer” and welcome “The year of Rat” by exchanging greetings and well wishes.
Lama Puja commenced at 4pm sharp by lighting the candles and praying in front of Buddha statue and other Deities in Thangkas. Puja was conducted by Lama Gurus Racche Gurung (from Nepal) and Sange Gurung. Attendees received blessings from both Lama Gurus.
Our VIP guests were welcomed by offering “Khada” by our volunteers and executive members. Nepali and Australian National anthems were played at the beginning of the event. Event itself was divided into two parts – formal and informal. Formal program started with a welcome speech by TSV President Mr. Pahalman Gurung, and was followed by Lama Guru Racche Gurung’s “Prabachan” on “Lho”. On behalf of VIP guests, TSV well-wisher Mr Prasuram Sharma-Luital and NRN Victoria Coordinator Mr Prem Kandel extended Tamu Lho-Chhar wishes to all the attendees.
Informal program included several traditional dances as well as modern Gurung/Nepali/English dances from talented in-house artists both kids and adults. Stage performance by kids and adults in Tamu traditional and Nepali attire was again outstanding this year. The dances were choreographed by our own very talented choreographers Man Maya Gurung, Suman Gurung (Everest Dance Crew) and Choeyang Gurung. Overall informal program was handled by TSV Cultural artist co-coordinator Mr Mabi Gurung, TSV Secretary Mr Milan Gurung and TSV Assistant secretary Ms Mohini Gurung.
To continue encourage and recognize recent VCE/University graduates in Tamu community, four Gurungs – Iesha Gurung (Bachelor of Education with Honors), Sushila Gurung (Master of Public health), Tonnou Ghothane (Bachelor of Laws), and Saugat Gurung (Masters in Digital Media Design) were congratulated on the stage.
Finally, TSV Vice president Tej Gurung distributed the thank you certificates to artists, choreographers, Lama Gurus and volunteers, and officially concluded the program.
The event was supported by Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC). We would like to appreciate and acknowledge the Gold sponsor “Grace International Education and Migration” service as well as the other co-sponsors “Capkon Finance”, “The Kathmandu Properties”, “Multi Dynamic, Your Dynamic Real Estate” for ongoing support. “The Kathmandu Cottage” has been our long term supporter for venue and catering services.
